Your mentioning your daughter's drivers test and parallel parking reminded me of my driving test at 16. I am competent enough now for parallel parking now, but when I took my driving test 40 some years ago parallel parking was not one of my best skills.
Fortunately, in Branson MO at the time there was only half a block in the whole town with parallel parking. Unfortunately it was right in front of the license office (probably for just that reason :>) I took the driving test and did well enough to pass. But I was lucky on the parallel parking as well. Since it was right in front of the license office parallel parking was the last task on the test as you returned to the license office. When I got there, no one was parked in any of the parallel spots so I just drove straight in and parked between the lines. The instructor just sighed and gave me credit for proper parallel parking in the circumstances.
