Alan,
I was keeping quiet but absent anyone giving exact information: I put
the car in high gear and roll it forward, knock it out of gear and roll
it back, put it back in gear roll it forward, etc. I can grab a wheel
"spoke" and do so as accurately as using a socket and ratchet. Just
seems easier to me.
I also use a fixture to hold the cams in time. Got the idea from Mark
Denovich but it is just an aluminum plate that bolts across the
pulleys. I capture one inner bolt on each; that's enough to hold
everything securely. I transferred the profile of the pulleys to the
plate and cut them about 1/8" undersize so the belt goes on and off
easily. Made it in about 45 minutes out of 1/8" stock.
Digest is quiet, want to debate tensioners?

Subject: [alfa] Milano timing belt
I am changing the timing belt on my 87 milano, 2.5L.
Does anyone know the size of the socket needed to hand crank the engine?
Thanks for any help you can give.
