my '74 (spica) spider has been running great all year until today, it cranks for a while before starting, then suddenly without me pushing the throttle, revs up to over 4000 rpm then abruptly quits. after this happened a couple of times i checked linkage, air tubing, spica pump visually, everything seems fine, does this sound familiar to anyone ? this has never happened to me in over 26 years !
How old is your T/A? What does the pump gap look like? Given what you've already looked at, I'd start with that. If the pump gap is way off, it's an indication that the T/A is failing, or has failed.
