Actually, the rear spoiler on the Spider helped in SCCA competition. Of
course, the cars that used them had cut down windshields and no tops, unlike
their road going brethren. The street spoilers, it is my understanding, were
applied for homologation (at least initially). The front spoiler that
appeared later may have gone through the same process, but I have no
personal knowledge of that one. By the way, Ward and Dean did the
development work on the spoilers. I hope they got some modest compensation
for their work.
