Jon, if the flasher is clicking it may be OK. There is a bimetallic strip that heats up when current passes through it. If there is not enough current it will not bend far enough (for a slower click). The most likely cause are bad bulbs or poor grounds (likely) or generally horrible wiring. Even the switch contacts could be a problem.
Take the flasher unit to an auto store, you will probably find a replacement.
