My GTV-6 flasher is a modern garden-variety Bosch unit available over
the counter at places like NAPA and Pep Boys. It only flashes faster
when a bulb is either out or not making proper contact.

My experience is that flashers will also click rapidly if one or

It depends on which type of unit is in the car. In Jon's car, being
a '74, I assumed that he'd have a bimetallic unit. Those cycle
faster under heavier current load. "Hybrid" units use a relay and
timing circuit, and can sense when a bulb is out. Those are
designed to blink at twice normal rate when that happens. I don't
know when Alfa would have switched to hybrid or solid-state
flashers. I kind of figured that wouldn't have happened until at
least the Milano.
