I get my "alfa digests" in digest format, and didn't notice that the
message wasn't a direct reply, but I have already made a detailed and
grateful "thank you" to Michael Liu. As the O.P., I'd like to publicly
note that his message was marvelously helpful. My son had already made
his appeal (immediately after the first trial), and we found there was
no transcript available so it looked like #2 would -have- to be a de
novo trial but we didn't know it was procedurally that way. Great and
informative post. We'll be making up diagrams, complete with circles and
arrows (apologies to Arlo Guthrie), and generally paying close attention
to Michael's advice.
