I seem to be doing constant battle to keep my 164S struts happy. When they
work on automatic they work very well. When there is a problem they revert
to sport setting which on city streets is not particularly comfortable. For
the past two-three years they would default to sport and I and then they
would self-correct. During the time when they defaulted to sport I took the
car to a (former) Alfa dealer who checked them out, found nothing wrong,
accepted my money and waved goodbye. All seemed well until before leaving
(Seattle) the struts were back again to the default sports setting and the
red light. Today I took the car to a local dealer who told me that he found
a loose ground wire but before I was off his lot the system showed green
light (auto), red light (defect) and the sport light was off. I am now
thoroughly confused. Why is there a green light either for sport or auto
come on along with the red problem light?

I've searched for an answer but so far to no avail.
