Bruce and all,
It has been a while since I messed with one of those solenoids but I
thought that it shut the fuel completely off. I just checked Wes Ingram's
book and it says to hot wire the solenoid and the engine should die.
So, hot wire yours and see what happens. If the engine dies, that ain't
the problem ;-)

Subject: [alfa] Re: loss o' power in GTV
I stopped by my local Alfa mech. (Julio at Milano Motors, Md) and he thought
the culprit was the FI's fuel cutoff solenoid and the microswitch. When the
solenoid is activated, the car will idle but there isn't any fuel for
acceleration. He believes that the microswitch has become maladjusted
(capricious, unstable, etc) and it switches on at the
most inopportune times. To access the switch, you need to remove the FI
pump from the car which can be a tedious job.
So the next time this happens, I'll pull the wire off the top of the
solenoid (at least that is easy to access!) and see if power is restored.
If it is the switch, I'll leave the wire unattached until I find the time
to remove the FI pump.
