Gentle Alfisti, Certain revelations never should and never do (no doubt) make it to the Digest, but with respect to the backfire issue... Check the handle on the jack that's mounted in the trunk. Mine was swinging around and thumping into the rear seat bulkhead. It sounded all-the-world like a backfire between shifts. Embarrassing but true.
