The cable assembly is available at Centerline or International Auto Parts for about $10. It most likely snapped there due to age and lack of grease. If the sheath is in good condition, go to your local drugstore bicycle section and get a replacement brake cable for under $2 and cut it to length. This will get you back on the road and if you want a complete assembly, order it and it should come in a week or so.
