Cats: Another item I never got to while working on the rear of my Alfetta and would like to ask the collective for ideas.
My car came with rear lower spring pads. These pads are no longer available. One of mine is medium crushed and the other is badly crushed. I've found out from some of the forums that most have their springs resting directly on the perch, or on the aluminum spacer that is directly on the perch. My perch appears to have been welded at some time in the past and the spacer does not sit nicely on it. I would really like to put a soft layer of some kind there just to take up the irregularity. The upper spring pads could almost work, and they are available. They are however, flat on one side and stepped on the other. The inner diameter is too small too. The lower perch is about 4.5" diameter and the upper hole has a much smaller diameter. In the absence of available Alfa spring pads, can anyone think of another car that has the same kind of rear spring as the Alfetta/GTV6/Milano? They are quite a large diameter spring. The outside diameter is something like 6" and the inside is like 5". If there is another car out there with those springs, maybe their pads would help. My last thought is to cut out donuts from a sheet of rubber or polyurethane.
