For the light problem, I would suspect the contacts in the column switch before anything else, especially if they went out sequentially.
You can save some mula by instead of replacing the entire switch assembly, remove the switch cowling and sand the switch contacts with a fine peice of sand paper. You can add some vaseline to the contact points as desired (Italian style). In Italy they say you don't know how well they do it to you, because when then do it to you, they do it with vaseline!
