If I may be so bold, I think I'm hearing a lot of support and seeing some resurgence of interest in the digest as a response to the "roll call." I would like to say again that i am here, but I lament the loss of some of the lively discussions I once read, although I've only been in the digest fold since 2001.
My 77 Spider is not now running, but I'm still passionate about Alfas and I'm glad to see similar expressions. I guess I've been lulled into lurker status mainly due to other things demanding attention. But I really do miss Russ Neely. He was always an even-toned, fair and helpful resource of great experience. I'm sure others were and are, too, (Brian Shorey being a notable example) but I'm just speaking from experience and respect. Russ gave me sound advice that got me out of more than one scrape. And in a private response from him, I learned years ago that I live blocks away from his grandmother's house, where he spent some summers. I wish I could have met him. And, yes, I remember some of Fred DiMatteo's posts, always rational and clear, if a bit irritable in tone at times. But respect needs to be afforded all around. Lively discussions of engines and oils and various other issues once ruled. This place could be that again. But I'd really like to emphasize: I would just echo another poster by saying that responses really should be "on digest." That will help us all (rather than leaving us wondering what the requester's best advice turned out to be), and let us regain some lost sense of community. Digester always.
