Well, Alan, If I did denigrate the idea of PS it's because my previous
experience with it left me cold. My 2003 VW GTI, for instance, has
Bosch PS and it's dead as a doornail! Can't "feel" the road and I
don't like that isolation from the car. My previous VW GTI (an '85)
had manual steering and while it was a bear to park and to steer at
low speeds, it gave me marvelous feedback through the steering wheel.
I suspected that the Alfa PS would do the same (after all, it too is
Bosch) until I had a chance to drive someone's Milano Verde. That
changed my mind - and GOD did the GTV-6 NEED PS! it was almost as
truck-like as a Ferrari Daytona.

I don't get any exhaust smell. Is it a sort of rotten-eggy smell? If
so, I suspect that you'll find that your cat has failed. This is a
common problem with OEM Alfa cats.

I'm using the original 2.5 throttle-body, but I've fitted an L-
Jettronic AFM from an '80's BMW "6-series" sedan. But I have also
fitted an aftermarket air inlet system:

from the High-Performance Store (formerly "oldebottles.com) as well
which gave me quite a horsepower boost. I also added S-Cams at the
time of the engine conversion as well as larger fuel injectors, ported
and relieved inlet and exhaust ports, and a "Pandora's Box" modified
Bosch CPU. I'm getting 216 BHP to the rear wheels at 6200 RPM.

You forgot----You poopooed my power steering (I put it in long ago)

had this problem? If I lean the car down 'til the smell is less
noticeable, then it hesitates on acceleration. Can't seem to win.---
are you using the old 2.5 AFM?

Yes it does transform the car! Did you add power steering while you
had the engine out? I hope so...
