How difficult is it to replace a dashboard from an 82 era Spider and get it back in without either dammaging the dashboard itsefl or anything near it? I have never taken the dashboard out, but I have taking the heater out a number of times and I think I could figure how to get the entire dashboard out but then if I do that I would need to get it back in successfully. Does anybody have experience doing it?
Thanks! Jon Kligerman Jon, This is a fussy job made easier by the removal of the seats. The dash is held on to the cowl by wing nuts that are acessable from below and inside the dash assembly. You'll have to get the flex duct out of the way to see them from underneath. I think there are four along the top of the dash They pinch tabs that must be aligned not to foul on reassembly. The small gauges are captured to the dash in a way that defies description, so take a picture of the backside or make a little sketch to remind yourself the orientation of the bracketry. I've done this job twice on my 72 spider. Now live with a crack from the vent opening to the windshield. They all crack sooner or later. Mabe someday the leather-covered dash for sale on ebay will be an indulgence. modelle -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
