Most rental agencies (Hurst,Avis, Dollar, etc.) in Italy (especially at the airports) rent "Alfas" but be advised that they are mostly Diesels these days. Alfa Romeos no longer exist, per se. They are merely upscale Fiats. They share engines, trannys, chassis, brakes, even some body parts in some instances with Fiats and Lancias. The last real Alfas were the 156, 147, the 2-seat Coupe and Roadster and the V-6 Alfa Sprint. They haven't been made since around 2005. So, if an Alfa isn't available, don't feel too bad about renting a Fiat. Except for cosmetics, they are practically the same thing, unfortunately.

Put this one in the dumb or FAQ category, but like all of us I want to
rent an Alfa - a high performance Alfa, preferably - on a trip to Italy
this June. Any basics or suggestions that anyone could share?

Thanks!
