Hello all, I recently swapped the SPICA pump in my '76 Spider for a used unit from APE. Previous pump had a stuck rack. The car seemed to run really well considering I didn't do much setup beyond getting the TA set screw set to .19 at 180 degrees and set the long rod. It was really great to go from dead to running for $200, a few hours on my back, swearing and fearing my 1/4" ratchet u-joint was going to break.
The one thing I noticed was the car seems harder to start that with the previous pump, and almost won't start at all if you give it much more than zero throttle. The cold start solenoid works and I hear it clicking away when I turn the key. I took a measurement from my previous pump solenoid and discovered the solenoid was screwed in about 3.5 more turns on the current pump. I decided to set the current solenoid the same as the old one, or about .275 from bottom of solenoid housing to pump housing. The car started better and with a bit more throttlepretty much as I'd hoped. Here's the glitch. Now when I come to a stop, the car will idle normally for about 5 seconds, then nearly die a few times, then eventually settle back into a normal idle. If I coast to a stop not using the brakes, or just take the car out of gear and coast, this does not happen. I haven't tried returning the solenoid to its previous setting to see if anything changes. I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas first. Any feedback would be great.
