Bruce,
If you can prove you bought the shocks new, Konis carry a lifetime warranty.
Simply send them back to Koni and they will return them to as new for free.

The point I was trying to make is that materials alone were $5k for a
smallish
car. It cost me $12k to do my '92 Spider and $8k to do my '91 Allante and
both
were done simultaneously four years ago. (Both were black cars so I saved
money).

Painting on top of existing paint is a false economy. Been there, done that.
(I grew up in a car dealership that had a body shop and I saw the effects of
DRP work.)

Automotive paint technology is changing again and what's being used now will
be outlawed/outdated in 3-5 years (and sooner in CA). The problem with this
new paint is that it does NOT bond to older paints. It doesn't have the
forgiving nature of nitrocellulose or single stage acrylic, nor does it have
the workability of modern two stages. And to boot, it's more expensive.

This was the biggest subject of conversation at SEMA a few days ago.

Save money in the long run and do it right.

Sure , for a bare metal
show
quality paint job, you're right. It's a lot
less if you don't have to
go to
bare metal. If you're going all the way,
every primer coat should sit
for 30
days between sandings. I think on a
Berlina, it will be awhile before
anyone
does that kind of job. Giulietta and
Giulia Spiders are worth putting
that
kind of paint money into.

A decent
paint job is way more than four
grand.

Just to do a bare metal repaint of my
1988 Corniche due only to paint
cracking
(no rust nor bodywork), set me back
$22k. Materials were $5k.

I've been told that Koni shocks are rebuildable. If so, is there any value
to s set of Koni reds for a GTV-6? They were installed in the early 1990s.
One rear leaks, the others are 20 or so years old.

I looked into this once, I think you can just send them back to Koni and
they will do it. Not cheap though, if I recall correctly it was
somewhere around $100 each. http://www.koniracing.com/shopservices.html

Subject: [alfa] Bosch distributor Cap

Cats:

I can't remember who I bought my last distributor cap and rotor from and
what I specified, but the lady at Jon Norman's tells me all 74s came with
Marelli. Mine has a Bosch. I'm not so interested in the history of
distributors
in the 70s, but I want to buy a cap and rotor. She wanted to know the
distributor part number to get me the right parts. I can't get a good view
right now without removing air cleaners and such. Can anyone tell me
anything about my distributor if the part numbers on my cap and rotor
are:

Cap - 1235 522 056
Rotor - 2215 RS

Or will these part numbers be sufficient from which to order?

Thanks,
Stefano
