Maybe so, but the 164 had HUGE body lean on hard corners. Perhaps the one you
were behind had modified the suspension.--Ask me how I know!
As long as the suspension is properly designed, that is, as long as the geometry is designed to
handle it, body lean doesn't mean bad handling. I've got quite a few pictures of cars being driven
at the limit on the track, including GTV6s, and TZs, and you can see them leaning dramatically. A
car that stays level can be thrown into a corner with disregard to smoothness. A car that isn't as
stiff in roll must be guided into a corner to minimize the roll dynamics, and to allow the body to
take a set. But it can go through the corner just as fast.
At a track event at the old Stapleton Raceway here in Colorado, one of our club members gave his
stock 164 to a track-experienced Porsche driver. He was lapping that car just as fast as the highly
modified GTVs and a TZ. I was really astounded at what the car could do.
