Subject: [alfa] 9a Spider Veloce Muffler

I need a new muffler. I know this because all of a sudden, I sound like a
16-year old in a beefed-up hotrod!

A friend looked at it and said it's the front muffler. I have three
questions:

 1. Do I have to order special Alfa parts, or can I take it to a
muffler
repair place and they'll have what I need?

2. If I do need to order special parts, what comprises the "front
muffler"?

3. Can I still drive it while I'm waiting for parts?

 Thanks!

Kim

1. You do not need to order special Alfa parts but they will fit and
maintain the sound and performance. You can take it to a local muffler
shop and they should have something that will fit in that space. They will
cut the old muffler out and weld in the replacement along with any
additional pipe required to complete the connections. At least for the
converter there are after-market assemblies which include the pipes and are
meant to be bolt in replacements. If available for the front muffler your
local shop may be able to order it for you.

2. The front muffler consist of a pipe in front of the muffler which
connects to the catalytic converter and a pipe behind the muffler which
connects to the rear muffler.

3. If it only a little loud, like a hotrod, and not bellowing like an
open header drag car, which it won't as the catalytic converter will provide
a little buffer. You most likely could drive it while waiting.
