Besides all the other good suggestions don't overlook the possibility of bad alternator diode.
Specifically, though, in our truck shop we've found a dirty battery top can cause significant current between the posts. I had a truck with a poorly accessible battery that was cured by just cleaning the top. Battery was under the floor and ignored. I wouldn't expect this on an Alfa as everybody here is pretty attentive to their car, but it's a thought.
