Bruce, The Alfa 2L Engine overhaul manual for a Spider has the procedure steps (#04317 at IAP: http://goo.gl/I79Hv) but it is for the Bosch FI cars. However you could use the steps as a guide for what to do next for your '74 GTV. The nice part is that there are less things to remove from the GTV than Bosch cars ...
Don't forget to drop the center steering link otherwise you'll end up bending the rod ... don't ask me how I know...
