Subject: [alfa] Steering Box Grease for '66 Duetto? -West Clark wrote: >I've heard you can do a work-around by replacing the steering box oil with grease and avoid having to replace the seals in the box. Correct? Any particular grease to use?<
Years ago I bought a 35lb pail of Chevron 000 semi liquid grease (the smallest quantity available) and after filling the steering box of my GTV I repackaged it and sold it to other Alfa Digest and ABB members. I have only enough left to do one more steering box and I am holding on to it. Many other greases will work but the higher the viscosity, the harder it is to fill the box. They will all flow if you get them hot enough but pouring hot grease is a risky activity. The nice thing about 000 grease is that it flows fairly well at room temperature.
