>> The symptoms are as follows: On start up, the fuel pressure light goes off after a couple of seconds; <<
It should go off almost instantaneously, not after a couple of seconds. Sounds like weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filters. You need a fuel pressure gauge (0-20 psi) that you can "T" into the line to test. I can provide test procedure if you have the tools. >> engine revs up and will drive without stalling; after backing out of the garage and leaving the car for a minute with it idling, the revs begin to drop and it finally dies<< Check the condition of the Thermoactuator ..... does it protrude the correct amount? >> What I also noticed was in leaving my driveway, each time I shifted into the next gear the car would backfire once through the exhaust. << Usually caused by the throttle plates not fully closing when you take your foot off the gas pedal to up-shift. Check that all 4 throttle plates are fully closed when the car is not running (use a human hair to test). Check that you have slack in the throttle cable (both cold and after warm-up). Or a misadjusted short rod. Carl R. Davis 2823 S.
