It should go off almost instantaneously, not after a couple of seconds.
Sounds like weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filters.  You need a fuel
pressure gauge (0-20 psi) that you can "T" into the line to test.  I can
provide test procedure if you have the tools.

Check the condition of the Thermoactuator ..... does it protrude the correct
amount?

Usually caused by the throttle plates not fully closing when you take your
foot off the gas pedal to up-shift.  Check that all 4 throttle plates are
fully closed when the car is not running (use a human hair to test).  Check
that you have slack in the throttle cable (both cold and after warm-up).  Or
a misadjusted short rod.
