Hi Michael,

I wish I could help you more with this, I don't have recent memory of doing
this work. A squeaky clutch master in my 164 Super led me to purchase the
part. It is not yet installed. I once converted an LS from automatic to
manual. So, I have threaded the hose through the firewall. However, that
work was most likely done with the engine out.

Some years earlier, I pinched a nerve in my neck from standing on my head
under my Milano dash, unbolting the brake master. For one month I had
massive, debilitating pain. So, one bit of advice is to remove the front
seat for easier access to the under dash.

Regards,
Ken Stevenson

Subject: [alfa] 164 clutch master R&R

Assembled masses, yearning to share information:

I have found it (twice so far) to be a miserable thing to replace a 164
clutch master cylinder. The absolute worst part of the process in my
limited experience is to re-attach the hose to the cylinder after
mounting it. Granted, I have once had a miserable time replacing the
pivot bolt for the pedal, but the hose is my sticking point. Does
anyone know whether it is reasonable to pull the hose through the
firewall(s) to attach it prior to mounting the cylinder on the
firewall? I have always been nervous about being able to thread it back
through. Perhaps I could tie some cord to the end of the hose prior to
pulling it into the foot well, to aid me in pulling it back through ?
Suggestions welcome. Don't fear telling me I'm an idiot. I like to
learn. I've only been 10 yrs in Alfa-land.
