Just posted something about this on Alfa BB too ... the 164's clutch pedal has been lying on the floor for about two months. I did get a new master cylinder, but while the PO still hadn't gotten around to giving back the manual he'd "borrowed" a few years ago I did manage to get some info about replacing it. This was going to entail crawling around under the dash, which is something I mostly avoid these days, so I kept putting it off (really hot weather, whatever) until I said The Hell With It and flat-bedded it off to Alfa Italia in Burbank. About $155 later the car is drivable, but the pedal has to be pushed clear to the floor. As the PO did finally give the manual back I consulted it in case some adjustment might be possible ... and discovered that the item under the dash is called "the pump," and the one that operates the clutch is called "the master cylinder," totally out of sync with any other hydraulic-clutch car's manual I've seen. So I'm wondering whether Alfa mechanics in this country ignore the oddball nomenclature in the manual and use the standard names for those parts, or what? And what about the PDFs I got from the AROC archives that referred to the under-dash item as the master cylinder?
Most of all, how the hell do I get the pedal farther off the floor? Will Owen -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
