Ibve just completed an engine rebuild for my Alfetta 116.33 berlina. Along the way, I bought new engine mounts in light of the age and condition of the old mounts.
When re-installing the engine, I could not get it to fit properly with the new mounts. For those who havenbt been through this, the engine, when suspended from the bracket between the central head studs, leans to the intake side. I got the intake side mount located and held up by the lower stud, but when I continued to lower the engine, I just couldnbt get the exhaust side mount to settle low enough to be anywhere near the mounting holes. It was contacting the inner fender support, but it needed to settle another 1.5 inches. So, I lifted the engine again and did some checking. The rubber sections of the new mounts were 50 mm high, and the comparable old ones were roughly 45 mm high. So, I switched out the new rubber sections and replaced them with the old ones. The engine went back in, and with a little coaxing on the exhaust side, both mounts are now bolted in place. Before I go ahead with putting on the intake and exhaust hardware, I have some questions: Does the shorter measurement on the old rubber sections reflect the original size, or have they collapsed to that extent? Are rubber sections available at different heights? For those whobve been there and done this, is there any way to make the exhaust side mount fit with the new 50 mm rubber height? I would appreciate the benefit of the collective wisdom on the Digest. Thanks in advance!
