good progress today. 1) hooked up a battery charger, set it on start, and checked what happened when i turned the ignition key to the run (_not_ start) position. i got the characteristic clicking relay you get with a completely dead battery and a charger on start. so that was some evidence that the electrical system hasn't been destroyed by mice.
2) the snow has melted enough that i can get at the passenger side too. got the back seat bottom cushion out for cleaning. vacuumed up a lot of stuff. looking and smelling better already. 3) went to NAPA, got some supplies, a new battery, some light oil to put in the cylinders, motor oil and filter, new wiper blades. 4) installed the new battery. headlights, side markers, and tail lights all work. hazard flashers work, turn signals do not. radio doesn't want to turn on (it's on of those OE radios with the security code, need to remember how that works.) ventilation blower works, but it appears there are acorns, etc., stored in there. need to clean that out. wipers & washer work, power windows work although the rears, especially the RR, seem slow. left side power mirror works; the little rocker switch is stiff so i didn't get to try the right side. big overhead light comes on, little map light does not. 5) light oil in all the cylinders, now it's sitting. won't try to start it until after i do an oil change and get some fresh gas into the tank. i have email from two folks on the list about stuff they have that might make it onto this car; will send you private notes later tonight. wanted to be sure the car had an un-moused electrical system before i spent too much money. richard -- [email protected] Averill Park Networking - GIS & IT Consulting OpenStreetMap - PostgreSQL - Linux Java - Web Applications - Search [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type application/pgp-signature which had a name of signature.asc] -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
