One alternative may be to use compressed air in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner to blow any leaf litter back out from whence it came. Make sure it's very dry and you should be able to get a lot of it out (it'll be messy)
Years ago I pulled apart the dash in my 75TS (RHD) and wouldn't recommend anyone do it. Lots of plastic tabs to break off and it will never be the same again. Once it's relatively clean, install the plenum mesh to keep out the big stuff.
