sudo is there to make sure that nothing catastrophic happens; hopefully ;-)

If you find the build process complicated or difficult then you probably shouldn't be using this tool. This is designed to be used by people who build LFS frequently and know how to work out what went wrong when something does go wrong. This is explained in the README files...
