Hi Pierre,

In view of those helpful responses I might come back to kf5 next
week.

Technically, it was the install that failed.  I did a DESTDIR
install without problems, but when (in the script) I followed that
by copying (cp -av) from the DESTDIR to '/' the problem occurred
again.

If I come back to gnome in the future I'll take a look at building
it, with a DESTDIR install, much earlier.
