I was all set to rebuke you when I looked at the links... Wow... You are absolutely correct that this is a Bug 1 problem. The problem is that we have a tendency to work on problems that we have, and set aside problems that we don't see. This can leave some holes in the final product, and this is one of them. So in the spirit of Bug 1, let me offer a patch for Bugs like this... First, nm-pptp not installed by default is not a bug. It is a design decision... So you can not fix it through bug reporting. (Whishlist is the correct category for it) But you can fix it with blueprints, and developer summits. Look at these blueprints... https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu?searchtext=pptp Taking charge of some of these, and creating a plan for raising the visibility of the problem goes on blueprints. Look at https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-karmic-bug-workflow as an example of a good blueprint. Also, but taking on pptp, we also triage and combine all the pptp bugs floating out there, and take some work off the devs. (as defined in that blueprint) That will increase there support. If you want to do this, contact me directly. We have 15 days to get the launchpad stuff in order, and I can attend the UDS to promote it. I can help and promote, but I do not have the time right now to lead this kind of project. -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu 4 dz, which is a direct subscriber. This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix. Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry, restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full potential, globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry. Steps to repeat: 1. Visit a local PC store. What happens: 2. Observe that a majority of PCs for sale have non-free software pre-installed. 3. Observe very few PCs with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed. What should happen: 1. A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software like Ubuntu. 2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and benefits would be apparent and known by all. 3. The system shall become more and more user friendly as time passes. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~algeriatul Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~algeriatul More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
