I have been ardently working towards fixing this bug locally here at Rutgers, NJ. My fiancée was the first one to discard windows for Ubuntu because she clearly noticed the performance difference between windows and Ubuntu in installations having existed parallel for a long time. My future father-in-law was also very impressed with Ubuntu's performance after I salvaged his Asus netbook with Ubuntu post a windows crash. None of us are ever buying a computer pre-installed with Windows, with two new ones from Dell already coming with Ubuntu. My colleagues at work are also gradually switching, considering the lumbering leviathan windows 7 is - seriously, 15 GB for the OS itself??? - and hopefully the word shall propagate outwards throughout starting from the Physics department :D
