Donno if it's the right thing to comment here, but some of you might want to consider what Meggido did for solving some geometric problems - it's called parametric search... do google for it - it's very very interesting. His algorithm simulates a parallel algorithm on a serial system, still achieving a nice reduction in the total time complexity.
