Hey..there are a simple way to convert this type of expression into
English.....

 int *a[] : 'a' is an array of pointer to integer.. i.e : integer-pointer
array int (*a)[] : 'a' is a pointer to a array that contains integers : ie
pointer to an integer array..

see below how it derived..:

  int * a []
                            .....................>
              <----------------------
   <--------

and

int ( * a ) []
                              ...............>
                   <----------------
           <------
           ...........................................................>
<----------------------------------------

Hope Understood ?

Cheers
Dipankar
