Smart mode isn’t everything. The LS-P4 has a solution, you can normalise the recording. If you’re not sure where to set the level for your recording then set the level to a fairly low value. Start your recording and - if necessary - apply the normalise function to the recording when finished. As you will hear with my capture of the Dove, the ‘Auto” mode does a pretty good job for most things.
