which implies it's an ambitious task to change this - there's a lot of "legacy
code" which is still based on ULONG, USHORT, etc. Whoever wrote the chapter you
cited is, ehm, a little bit out of touch with reality (more kindly: probably
usually working in modules which are very near to the UDK, and not older than,
say, 2 years).
Large parts of SVTOOLS and VCL use the ULONG / USHORT / etc. types, and simply
deprecating them isn't a solution, since it implies several man weeks of work to
get rid of them. And as long as base classes in those modules aren't clean, we
can't clean our depending code in dbaccess.
