'Replace "standard quotes" with "custom" quotes' checkbox on the Options tab 2. Replace checkbox in the Double quotes section of the Custom Quotes tab Checkbox 1 appears to have neither a positive or negative influence on smart quotes. Only checkbox 2 determines the result.
