Two Sun-internal customers (staroffice-interest) report problems losing data on
large presentations; see second customer report for a workaround that points to
possible source of bug.

I have a large presentation (175 slides, ~20 MB, lots of graphics
    150 jpg and 30 gif -- looking at the unzip'd *.sxi). Using a SB1000
running Solaris 9 4/04 (all patches to Jan 12 applied). I have 2GB
    of RAM.

SO7 PP4 opens the original just fine.

If I copy the original file with UNIX cp to something else, SO7
opens that copy just fine also.

If I however, after opening the original presentation (and
make no changes whatsoever) I endevour to make a copy instead
using "File -> save as" , I get

Error saving the document ... Write Error. The file could
    not be written.

Furthermore, although I've made no changes at all, the "save as
has done something to the file -- if I close the original file
I now get a "discard changes" pop-up. What changes? Also,
while my original prezo before the File->Save as was just fine,
now I find graphics randomly missing from some of the slides
with that generic gif holder icon in their place.

I'm thinking a workaround may be to split this prezo into small
chunks (a bit of a pain), but wondering if anyone has other
    suggestions also.

I had the same problem earlier with some of our "heavy" presentations and I
solved it by giving StarOffice more graphics cache memory. Tools -> Options ->
StarOffice -> Memory where we ususally set the "Graphics Cache" -> use for
StarOffice to at least 64 MB. I usually also set the memory per object size to 4
MB although I havn't tested how much this really does on the whole.
