Hello,
just a small tip: you may use the latest milestone build available from
http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html
Now a complete wizard for mailmerges (=serial letters) has been introduced,
which provides more assistance and functionality. Just give it a try (without
any warranty..). Alternatively you should use the latest stable version of OOo,
which currently is 1.1.4.
