Here is a short explanation about our usage of bookmarks in header : We use openoffice or MS Word as an editor in a document management system, quality oriented. The headers and footers bookmarks are used to automatically fill the document with traceability data : version number, application date, validator, and so on. The bookmarks are updated during the life cycle of the document. In a quality management system, these indicators are mandatory and should always be inserted programmatically (we browse the bookmarks collection and insert data at bookmarks location). The header and footer are used by the program to put traceability datas and to update them during life cycle, and the body area is used by the user for her content. For the moment, our software use MS Word OR OpenOffice, due to conversion problems between the two formats.
