You create a graph in your spreadsheet, them doubleclick to edit it, and choose the "area" properties. In the dialog window, choose the page "area" again. You have the usual option (none, color, etc.). However the third option should be "sfumatura" (gradient) but it wrongly reads "trasparenza" (transparency) instead.
