Okay, this is needed to trigger the behavior right as I did:
1) open the document (I have OOo 2.0beta2);
2) go to page 7 (or 11 in absolute numbers);
3) place cursor at the end of the footnote;
4) type in "-- <Ctrl-I>Прим. перев." (exactly what I did). AutoCorrect will
change it to "-- Прим. Перев.";
5) go back to the second word's first letter, backspace it out;
6) try to put in the small "п" back.
7) see the OOo Writer blow in awfully smelling smoke.
