This is the same issue reported in 53249, 24357, 42950, 24359, & possibly
others. It has **WRONGLY** been reported fixed/closed.

The issue is, that scrolling doesn't work when using the IBM Thinkpad Trackpoint
& middle button in OpenOffice. This scrolling works FINE with every other
application I have ever used, including Firefox.

The previous issues were reported closed based on a workaround, but this is
incorrect, because:

A) The workaround doesn't work -- not for me, anyway, and also not for others
that I have read on various boards.

B) The idea of that sort of workaround (go in & edit a system file) is
unacceptable for a product that is meant to be user-friendly & compete w. MS
Office.

How is the average user even going to know such a workaround even exists (even
if it worked)? Besides, things like scrolling are expected just to work, and
does with every other application. I've never come across a single other app
that requires editing of a system file to get the trackpoint to work. So there
is clearly something peculiar in the OpenOffice implementation.

You fix a lot of obscure features that nearly no-one uses, but nearly no-one
will use OpenOffice Write as a substitute for MS Word if scrolling doesn't work.
IBM Thinkpad is not some obscure no-name laptop you don't have to think about.
Most decision makers in most big companies are making their decisions while
working on Thinkpads.

You might try to work with IBM/Lenovo to resolve it -- they have an interest in
OpenOffice. You might just try to really figure out the problem & fix it. Or
you might just say it's not very important & put it down the priority stack.

But please don't report it as fixed/closed until it is.

Thanks,

Paul
