Then I checked whether export SAL_DISABLE_CUPS=1 in the soffice startup script helped. And, indeed, it solved the problem. I had the program running for a couple of days and experienced no more problems. Then I moved to reinstall CUPS and tune its configuration files. Now everything is working.
