I am reopening this issue after examining what happens in other applications and
even in OO.o in other contexts.

i would like to give the example of OO.o backing window: The standard toolbar
has the new document icon with a drop down alongside. Now if u click the icon a
text document is opened. That means u don't have to pull down the menu a second
time unless you want to change the option.

In other cases: -

If there is drop down list attached to an icon, the icon itself changes to the
recently used one. A single click on the icon produces the same result
associated to that particular [active] icon/command. You can examine the Zoom
function of Acrobat Reader.

Therefore I propose to change the behaviour of the create new style from
selection. This behaviour would be somewhat intelligent and user-friendly.
