You definitely misunderstood. This is definitely not the same between OOo 1.1.x and 1.9mXX. It is meant to be the same, and it looks the same on first look, but the problem is that some PDF-viewers can properly display the PDF generated with OOo 1.1.x but not those generated with a 1.9mXX. So the problem is not Font-rendering-capabilities of the viewers alone, it has to do with the way OOo embeds the fonts in the PDF. And this is not limited to Type1 fonts.
