I varied the configuration by using a P4 2 Ghz machine with Windows 2k version 5.00.2198. I downloaded the provided attachment and when I tried to open it with OOo1.1.4; I also noticed that the checkboxes that appeared in MS-Word no longer appeared in OOo1.1.4.
