I seem to have found:

1) Installing on cleaned system work OK, even for nonstandard partitioning on
MSWin2k.

2) OOo uninstallers seem not to uninstall some parts in registry that i would
think should be uninstalled, plus the startup link.

3) Installing on non OOo-cleaned system seem to have the issues bencoman
reported; if I remember what i have done correclty i had the same problem, but
I
am out of spare time to mess up the system that much again now...

------------------------- Details: ---------------------

Like bencoman i use several partitions. System reside on L:\ , programs on F:\
user files, temporary files, backups etc on other partitions... (That made
reinstall much easier - Win2k too often made spaghetti of my system before SP3)

OS: Win2k-SP4, originally english, but some patches are swedish.
the system have never seen any MSoffice part, but Staroffice 6 and lot of OOo
versions from pre OOo1 to now OOo2RC3.

I decided to steal time to test this issue, only finding out *no* user have
correct linking of MSO files anymore!?! (.ppt not known to system, .xls
erroneously pointing to an uninstalled now nonexistant location of OOo, .doc to
wordpad) That is weird as i for obvious reason always (unless i forgot this
time) select OOo to open MSO formats. Maybe i forgot.

Maybe it was caused by me uninstalling OOo1.4 - I do not remember wether I
uninstalled it before or after OOo2RC, and maybe it was OOo1.4 that opened MSO
formats, but then I also have forgotten to check thoose boxed for all OOo2
betas, and that is not very plausible - i am almost certsin i have read MSO
formats on OOo2 beta. And i did uninstall OOo2 beta before installing RC)

The only office application on the system now is OOo2RC3 swedish.

So i run the OOo2 installer selecting repair: no change. Run it again (under
adminiistrator privilegies of course) selecting change (or what was the word),
and checked the MSO formats, and then MSO formats works correct for admin, but
not for any other user, not even new ones, standard or restricted.

Frankly I do not know how it is supposed to work: maybe ol users are meant not
to be affected, but I think new users shuld get the MSO files link like last
time an administrator have set it? No?

Getting annoyed I:

1) uninstalled OOo2
1b)rebooted

2) deleted any Openoffice folder and file I could find left in program folder,
and user settings

3) in registry agressively deleted any thing i could think of: containing OOo,
openo, soffice, stardiv, application/vnd.sun.
3b) rebooted

I also realised that the uninstaller forgot to remove the startup link to the
quickstarter. (maybe because it is generated by the program, not installer?) At
least for the other administrator priviligied user. Seem like a bug.

The uninstallers also seem to have left keys from all Openoffice versions in at
least two places, one is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\ , the other i
forgot. Seem like another bug.

4) Installed OOo2svRC3, to F:\OOo2\, selecting all MSO formats. Ran DictOOo
from menu to get swedish dictionary.

5) Everything OK from other users, both MSO links and dictionary

6) Also all OK for new users created.

(One last note that might be related: i have earlier experienced problems
between antivirus software and programs, including installers, therefore I
nowadays shut of antivirus during install/uninstall after having it checked the
install archive.)
